The Volvo Ocean Race is spreading knowledge all over the Newport County community! Earlier this spring, a school on Aquidneck Island was honored with a visit from Sail Newport’s Brad Reed to discuss the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover. The students learned all about the 38,000 nautical mile, around-the-world race. Check out these great posters the students created about the race, the competing teams, the boats and the sailors.
Just think of all the knowledge the students gained by researching the Volvo Ocean Race. Not only did they learn about sailing and sailing technology but they have learned about the countries competing in the race, the flags of different countries, the geography of the race course, the math of how fast the boats sail and how far the race is, the weather of the race course, the ocean life that the teams encounter, and on and on and on. This school project is just one example that the Volvo Ocean Race is bringing much more than just a world class sailing event to Newport!
See the Volvo Ocean Race action in Newport from the water! 12 Meter Charters will be offering cruises on May 14, 16 and 17 for viewing of the Volvo Ocean Race events. These cruises include viewing the Volvo 65’s racing under motor and sailing Narragansett Bay aboard one of our America’s Cup 12 Meter yachts. Come join 12 Meter Charters in Newport for a viewing of this “Life at the Extreme” sailing event!
Sailing aboard an America’s Cup 12 Meter Yacht is the ultimate Newport experience!
