Next week, the skies will give the United States a show unlike any other. For the first time in twenty six years, a total solar eclipse will occur over America. Though Rhode Island will not be host to the less than seven minute show of a total eclipse, we will have an unimpeded view to a two hour look at the eclipse at a magnitude of 0.7261. This means that on August 21st at 1:28pm a partial eclipse will begin over Narragansett Bay with the moon covering 66.15% of the sun! This will be a once in a lifetime and absolutely beautiful sight! Especially since this will be the last time the North East will get to see an eclipse for some time.
Scientists agree that the best places to see this amazing event are from areas with clear skylines and low air pollution. What better place is there but the open sea? From our home in Newport, Rhode Island there are few places with uninterrupted sky and rooftops may quickly become crowded with spectators of the fantastic sight. Why not leave land behind and get a more intimate view from aboard the deck of one of Newport’s ships?
With just a few clicks at www.12metercharters.com you can reserve your spot aboard an America’s Cup vessel with 12-15 others for the best view in the state along with a two hour tour through Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay. The journey will start in front of The Mooring Restaurant on 1 Sayers Wharf in Downtown Newport.
Meet our friendly team members at 2:00pm to sign in and learn about the 12 Meter Yacht you’re about to board as the sky begins its magic overhead. Motor out of Newport Harbor and raise sail as your boat passes seaside mansions, light houses, and the Newport Pell Bridge. Gaze up at the sky with the help of complementary Solar Eclipse Glasses and enjoy a sight known to bring tears to the eyes. You will never see something so beautiful as an eclipse over the open ocean.
Join our crew on Monday, August 21st for a two hour cruise from 2:30pm to 4:30pm and join us in viewing the partial solar eclipse over Narragansett Bay for $98.00 for adults or $50 for children 4 to 12 years old. We hope to see you there! Tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis for One Sail Only!
