This August Newport, Rhode Island will host a regatta to remember! The first ever J Class World Championship is being planned by the New York Yacht Club and will feature racing from August 21st through the 26th. Seven out of Nine J Class competitors still floating will sail into Newport for the main event.
This inaugural J Class World Championship will be a spectacle to behold! Watching seven glorious contenders race through the Rhode Island Sound and Narragansett Bay will be a once in a lifetime experience.
JK7 Velsheda, J5 Ranger, JK6 Hanuman, JH1 Lionheart, J8 Topaz, and JS1 Svea will battle in out in a cutthroat completion with special significance. Newport’s Narragansett Bay is the original home of J Class competition. Historical America’s Cup racing took place in this very location in the 1930’s where being J Class was the official rule. To see them return and fight it out once more will be something no sailing fan will want to miss. Unlike the match racing of the 1930’s, all seven J’s will be at the starting line together, making an amazing photograph moment sure to have headlines all over the world.
Fans can witness the glory of the World Championship at the water in various locations around Newport. The best view however will be on the water.
