Welcome Aboard Fall!

The sun has set on another wonderful summer in Newport, Rhode Island. September 22, is the autumnal equinox, marking the end of summer and the start of fall. An equinox occurs twice a year (around 20 March and 23 September), when the plane of the Earth's equator passes the center of the Sun. At this time the tilt of the Earth's axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. This means that night and daylight hours are about equal on the equinox. On this autumn equinox we welcome aboard fall and look forward to a few more weeks Read More

The Great American Eclipse

Next week, the skies will give the United States a show unlike any other. For the first time in twenty six years, a total solar eclipse will occur over America. Though Rhode Island will not be host to the less than seven minute show of a total eclipse, we will have an unimpeded view to a two hour look at the eclipse at a magnitude of 0.7261. This means that on August 21st at 1:28pm a partial eclipse will begin over Narragansett Bay with the moon covering 66.15% of the sun! This will be a once in a lifetime and Read More

Uniquely Newport 4th of July!

Enjoy a uniquely Newport celebration this July 4th! Home of the Sons of Liberty, Rhode Island was the first state to declare its independence from Great Britain in a nearly unanimous vote. Stuck in the thick of coastal battles, Rhode Islanders wrote their own letters of discharge to the king and his soldiers while waiting 2 months for the other colonies to catch up in the decision to sign the declaration of Independence.
